A 19 year old from Nevada city, Ryan Steven Helfter, was killed in a traffic accident early this morning shortly after 2a.m. when he was driving a 2005 Saturn Ion southbund on McCourtney Road north of Indian Springs road. CHP officer Marc Morrison says Helfter was entering a right curve at an unsafe speed to negotiate the curve. He applied his brakes and began to rotate in a clockwise manner. The Vehicle ran off the east roadway edge, across a gravel private road (Rancho Nogotta) then a gravel shoulder. The vehicles left side then struck a parked Ford dump truck loaded with garbage. That impact did cause fatal injuries to the driver.
The Saturn continued traveling down a steep embankment where it came to rest in Manzanita bushes. The victim has been identified as 19 year old Ryan Steven Helfter of Nevada City. The accident is still under investigation. Helfterm was wearing a seat belt but it is not known at this time if drugs or alcohol were a factor in the collision.
