Grass Valley, California May 4, 2013 – The Nevada County Department of Environmental Health has been notified that last night 6,000 gallons of untreated and or partially treated sewage was released into Wolf Creek from the Wastewater Treatment Plant in Grass Valley. The release of wastewater was due to a clogged digester pipe. All contact with the water downstream to the Bear River should be avoided until further notice.
Grass Valley plant personnel cleared the blockage at 9:30AM this morning. Grass Valley personnel have cleaned up the sewage and posted warning signs in the immediate area. Environmental Health personnel have notified the residents within close proximity of Wolf Creek to avoid contact with the creek until further notice.
Nevada County Environmental Health is working collaboratively with the City of Grass Valley to minimize any impacts, and monitor the situation until there are no longer any remaining public health concerns.
