A New Cemetery for Grass Valley

Grass Valley is dedicating the new Elster memorial Cemetery on Saturday making it the 52nd cemetery in the county. Gary Plunkett, District Manager of the Nevada County Cemetery District who manages 27 of the cemeteries in the county has held the position for 33 years and has never purchased a plot for himself but he says he will buy one here.

“I’m a Nevada boy, but I’m going to pick the one out at Elster’s, the new cemetery. I’m going to grab the first spot. It’s very nice. I encourage people to go out and look at it because it is a show stopper. It is just the nicest place. It’s very, very quiet out there.”

The property was donated to the cemetery district by the Elster Family. The property is over 5 acres and will hold 720 burial plots. The dedication will be attended by Judith Elster along with local dignitaries beginning 10 am Saturday October 15. The Elster cemetery is at 20550 McCourtney Road, 10 miles south of Grass Valley.
