Americans for Safe Access is forming Nevada County Chapter

Advocates for safe and legal access to medicinal marijuana for qualified patients under Prop 215 are forming a Nevada County Chapter of Americans for Safe Access. Organizer Patricia Smith says ASA is the largest national member-based organization of patients, medical professionals, scientists and concerned citizens who support cannabis for therapeutic use and scientific research.

“It is a nationwide group that started in California and expanded outward and they have similar goals in making sure that patients have safe access to medical marijuana and then they fight the big fights. They are the ones that take the issue to the courtroom on behalf of the patients.”

ASA recently filed suit against the Department of Justice over the stepped up enforcement against cannabis clubs and cultivators in California.  The organizational meeting will include a PowerPoint presentation outlining ASA’s history and legal battles and Smith says they will also discuss the proposed Nevada County Cultivation Ordinance and how it could affect the local community.  The membership meeting will be Saturday march 10th from 2 to 4 pm at Anything Green Hydroponics on Penn Valley Drive, in Penn Valley across from the Post Office. The meeting is open to the public.
