Bar Fight Send one Man to Hospital

A bar fight in Grass Valley sent one man to the hospital and another to jail. Captain Rex Marks of the Grass Valley Police says a fight at Gary’s Place on Mill Street had a number of people involved, late Sunday night. When Officer arrived they found the male victim injured and needing medical treatment.

“Upon arrival, officers located several subjects engaged in what appeared to be a large disturbance. When officers made contact, they did, in fact, identify a victim who had been allegedly assaulted by a suspect.”

33 year old Derrick Gillespie of Penn Valley was taken into custody for suspicion of assault with bodily injury. Witnesses said a second suspect was also hitting the victim from behind. Captain Marks says the additional suspect fled before officer arrived. Officers are still attempting to locate the suspect. The victim had significant facial injuries; he was treated at Sierra Nevada Hospital and has been released.
