A Bicycle Master Plan Update has been adopted by the Nevada County Transportation Commission. NCTC staff member Michael Woodman says public workshops were held in Nevada City and Grass Valley, and an online survey was conducted to get citizen input. Now it will be up to the cities and County officials to adopt it to be eligible for grant funding. Woodman says Grass Valley City council has it on the agenda tonight.
The Bicycle plan focuses on bicycle transportation facilities and not recreational facilities. The State Bicycle Transportation Account awards $7.2 million in grants statewide each year. Woodman says they learned what people want from the surveys.
They also wanted the shoulders and class 2 bicycle lanes to be kept free of debris that might force cyclists into the mixed traffic. Safe routes to schools were also emphasised. and more secure bike parking.
