Six riders are to bicycle 300 miles from Truckee through Nevada City, Grass Valley, Sacramento and back, Next month ( Sept. 17-18), all to support Big Brothers Big Sisters’ local mentoring programs. For the second year in a row Hardy Bullock, Carey Thrasher and Ken Bossung – all members of the Tahoe Staff Cycling Team plus new riders Chris Barry, Scott Hanson and Mark Hockridge, will ride a new route that starts and finishes in Truckee, California with breaks in Sacramento, Grass Valley and Nevada City. Nevada County Big Brothers Big Sisters Executive Director Dena Valin says this is major fund raisers for our local Bigs of Nevada County.
“It really allows us to sustain our mentoring programs and so we were able to serve all the kids that we serve. We were able to serve last year over 250 kids.”
The ride will begin on Saturday, Sept. 17 at 6 a.m. from the parking lot of Smokey’s Kitchen in Truckee (12036 Donner Pass Road), and the riders expect to finish up back at Smokey’s between noon and 3 p.m. on Sunday, Sept. 18, where the public is invited to come welcome the riders home and celebrate their epic journey.
