Big Brothers Big Sisters Looking for Males to “Man-up”

There are a number of young boys in western Nevada County that are looking for mentors, role models and friends. Big Brothers and Big Sisters of Nevada County Board President Kelly Newell says the number of boys requesting a Big Brother is much greater than older males being trained to be a Big Brother.

The problem is statewide with the average wait time for a boy to be assigned a Big Brother being 275 days. Big Brothers and Big Sisters is running a campaign to encourage more men to apply to be a Big.

The application and screening process is not very difficult and the commitment is for just a few hours per week for at least one year.
The difference a Big Brother can make is tremendous socially, emotionally, and academically.
