The renovation of the Bridgeport covered bridge was kicked off with an official groundbreaking ceremony today. Save Our Bridge campaign committee Chair Doug Moon says there were many trips to Sacramento to convince the Budget committee to fund to project, including Supervisor Hank Weston who’s fourth district includes Bridgeport.
Weston says the Save Our Bridge campaign now has a revised slogan….It’s “Save Our Bridge…Get it Done.
Supervisor Board Chair Nate Beason said this was truly a group effort and he thanks everyone who put something into efforts to save the Bridge.
South Yuba River Citizens League Executive Director Caleb Dardick was proud of the community for their efforts.
Dardick also wanted to thank Governor Jerry Brown and the legislature for listening to the Save the Bridge committee and he thanked the community for it’s relentless campaign.*
There will be three months of work in phase one that will stabilize the 150 year old bridge. Restoration will be a bit more painstaking and the hope is that in a few years the community will be back for the ribbon cutting of the fully restored bridge. The entire project is 1.5 million
