Clerk-Recorder, Gregory J. Diaz had a surprise visit this morning from California Secretary of State, Debra Bowen. Diaz Says the Secretary of State was pleased to see the staff busy preparing for the upcoming Presidential Primary and commended the entire Nevada County Election staff for the great work that has been, and continues to be done in the Nevada County Elections office.
The Secretary then made a stop at Bear River High School where she took questions from Students in Mr. Morehouse’s History class including 10th grader Canyon Tober.
The secretary also talked about changes to the Presidential Primary elections due to Prop 14 and encouraged the students to take an interest in the June 5th elections. Andrew Mudd another Student at Bear High School said he was impressed that the Secretary came to the school and that he would now take a greater interest in elections because of her visit.
The Secretary’s office did not alert anyone to this mornings unscheduled visit to Nevada County.
