A service is available in the County for seniors and people with disabilities who do not qualify for In Home Support Services through Nevada County’s Department of Social Services but could use the services of a caregiver. Private Pay Customers now have access to the Public Authority’s Registry of personal assistants. Director, Ann Guerra says many people are able to live independently with a little assistance and this registry provides a list of caregivers who are background checked and have job references .
“So when people call us, we do charge a small fee. We charge $25 for sort of an initiation fee which comes with their first three referrals as well as a tool kit which is a binder with some good materials for a new employer about hiring someone to work in your home.”
Guerra says based on the calls they get there is a great need for this service in the community. People can stop by the Public Authority office at 466 Brunswick Road in Grass Valley or call the office at 274-5601 to get information on the caregiver list.
