Sierra Nevada Memorial Hospital’s parent company, Catholic Health Care West announced today that it has restructured its governance and changed its name to Dignity Health. Debbi Plass with Vice president of Development and marketing explains the purpose of the name change.
“It was intended to be more inclusive for our community in that Sierra Nevada Memorial Hospital is not a Catholic hospital, so the term “Catholic” in Catholic Healthcare West didn’t apply directly to us and then Catholic Healthcare West is positioning itself to grow outside of the three states they’re currently in, and so “west” doesn’t exactly apply. So they looked for a name that would be more inclusive and support that growth.”
Plass says patients will not notice an change to operations, policies or mission of Sierra Nevada Memorial Hospital. Dignity Health is headquartered in San Francisco and it is the 5th largest health system in the country with nearly 10 thousand physicians, and 55 thousand employees in Arizona, Nevada and California.
