CHP Reminds Driver to Slow for Rainy Conditions

An approaching winter storm has Highway Patrol officers urging motorists to slow down for conditions.   The CHP says the first significant rain causes the oils on the road to come to the surface; making the road slick and driving hazardous. Public Information officer Heather Blancarte says the best answer for drivers is to slow down.

“Keep in mind that the driving during the weather conditions does vary. If it’s raining, your stopping distance is increased, so your speed should be decreased.”

The CHP is also reminding drivers anytime your windshield wipers are on your head light must also be on. Officer Blancarte says checking the windshield wipers and replacing them may be appropriate.
