Conditions for Extreme Fire Danger Very Close

The conditions for extreme fire warning are very close according to the fire service. Consolidated Fire Chief Tim Fike says the projected winds today have prompted a red flag warning in the bay area and in some locations in the valley. Chief Fike says we are very close to declaring the warning. The Chief says the wind conditions will increase this afternoon.

“Our criteria here are just under red flag conditions but it is very high fire danger. The northeast winds that are starting to pick up as we speak and are expected to get much stronger tonight and tomorrow are very, very dry with anticipated humidity 9-24% in this area.”

The low humidity will cause a fire to spread much faster than normal. The Chief is advising caution when outdoors and using equipment. The Chief says the weather conditions are predicted to be at extreme fire danger next week.
