County Adopts new Building Codes

Beginning next month, the County’s Building Official and building inspectors will meet monthly with interested members of the Nevada County Contractor’s Association to discuss and explain recent changes in the Building Code. The residential building codes have moved from the Uniform Building Code to the International Building Code bringing significant changes to the construction world. These changes in the codes have required county building inspectors to undergo a considerable amount of technical training to understand and interpret the new codes. The intent of the planned meetings is to allow the Building Official and his staff an opportunity to share their training and interpretations of the codes with the members of the NCCA. County CEO Rick Haffey says it is very important that building contractors understand the intent and meaning of the building codes as they are administered by the Building Official and the County building inspectors.
