Nevada County Employees will be taking 5 furlough days at the end of the year in an agreement the county negotiated with the Stationary Engineers local 39. County CEO Rick Haffey says offices will be closed from December 24th through January 1st.

Some 500 employees will take the furlough days, emergency services personnel will remain on the job. The furlough days are non-compensated and were negotiated in the labor agreement to save the county money.

Departments that will be open during the designated furlough days include Departments of District Attorney, Sheriff, Probation, Public works, voter egistration, clerk Recorder, and Public Defender.

Nevada County has 775 positions, 500 of them represented by the Stationary Engineers local 39. Under the 3 year contract there are 5 furlough days this year…8 furlough days next year and no furlough days in the third year.
