Nevada County Supervisors today authorized allocating $125,000 collected in TOT taxes to fund a new Comprehensive Economic Development Program for the county. The TOT or Transient Occupancy Tax is charged by hotels, motels B and B’s and campgrounds, and historically the TOT revenues have been split between various chambers of commerce and tourism groups. Supervisors decided they might get more bang for their buck if the money was spent under one contract. Nevada County Economic Resource Council Executive Director, Jon Blinder says it will mean all the agencies supporting tourism and economic development will need to work together.
County officials hope to have a new Economic Development Program contract in place by July 1st.
