Deer Poacher to be Arraigned Next Week

A man suspected of poaching deer in Nevada County will be arraigned next week following a lengthy investigation by the California Department of Fish and Game.  25 year old Derik Robert Ewasko first came to the attention of wardens nearly a year ago when a visit to a local taxidermist turned up antlers tagged with Ewasko’s name.

“Two of the deer that were possessed or actually, apparently killed in 2009 were deer killed by this individual during the period of time that he was not allowed to hunt.”

Ewasko had previously been convicted of untagged deer and was banned from receiving deer tags. A search warrant was served on Ewasko’s residence on Tiger Tale Road in Alta Sierra where more evidence was seized.  Ewasko is scheduled to be in court August 22nd on the deer poaching charges.
