Do you remember Dial Popcorn?

My husband Michael and I were sitting in the back yard last evening, enjoying the mild weather. We took a portable phone outside in case a call came in.    I asked him what  the time was,   by reflex, he looked at his wrist then realized he didn’t have a watch on. So, he  looks towards the phone, then to me  and says, “Dial Popcorn.” I gave him that “What did you say” look.  He says, “Don’t you remember dial Popcorn?” Then I did have a vague memory of dialing p-o-p-c-o-r-n  on the phone dial pad (or rotary phone) and a lady’s voice would answer with “At the tone the time is ___hours___minutes and ___seconds” then you would hear a “beep.”  She would keep giving the time like that for long enough so you could reset your watch or set the wall clock  but you had to finish pretty fast or she would hang up on you after a few “beeps.”  Just for fun I dialed popcorn on the phone, what I got was a lady’s voice, but she said “You must dial a 1 before making this call…..then she hung up on me.
