Driver Killed in Newcastle Accident

A car accident resulted in a fatality in Newcastle yesterday. at 11:05 am an 82 year old man from Newcastle was driving his 1992 tan Subaru Legacy out of a private driveway on Indian Hill Rd. and was proceeding to make a left turn onto northbound Indian Hill Rd. Joshua Newton (20 year old from Auburn) was driving his 2001 black Chevy Tahoe southbound on Indian Hill Rd. at approximately 55 mph, approaching the Subaru’s location. The driver of the Subaru pulled out into the roadway, directly in the path of the Tahoe, causing the front-end of the Tahoe to impact the driver’s side door of the Subaru. As a result of the collision, the driver of the Subaru sustained fatal injuries. His passenger (76 year old from Newcastle), seated in the right front passenger seat, sustained major injuries and was transported to Sutter Roseville Medical Center   then later airlifted by Calstar to UC Davis Medical Center, due to the severity of her injuries. The driver of the Tahoe was taken to SRMC by air Ambulance with minor injuries. The occupants of both vehicles were all wearing their seat belts.  Alcohol and/or drugs do not appear to be a factor in this collision. The names of the couple in the Subaru are being withheld, pending notification of next of kin.
