Fabric Lovers and crafters are lamenting the pending closure of Fabrics on Mill Street. The business opened 6 years ago to cater to sewing enthusiasts offering fabric, patterns, notions and classes, but store owner, Jenny Davis says the business has taken a double hit from the faltering economy and rising cotton prices, and as a result the brick and mortar store will be closing on January 28th.
“Cotton prices have definitely gone way high. In the industry, we’ve had four price increases in about a year and the retail prices of fabric have just gotten so high that it’s more of a hobby than a necessity and an expensive one at that.”
Davis says an inventory clearance sale is underway and gift certificates will be honored through January 28th. She says Fabrics on Mill Street will still exist as an online retailer.
“We’ve had our website going for several years and we do sell fabric on our website. We’re going to be adding a blog so you can follow Taylor and myself with our projects and our new sewing ideas.”
Davis says Fabrics on Mill Street will be closed January 1st through January 4th for inventory. Regular store hours are now Tuesday through Saturday 9:30 to 5:00 until they close January 28th.
