Fire Marshalls in Grass Valley and Nevada County want people to know all fireworks are banned in those jurisdictions, even the so-called Safe and Sane kind.
Grass Valley Fire Marshall Jeff Wagner says in 2009 Grass Valley passed an ordinance banning the sale and possession of all fireworks.
People are discouraged from going to shopping center parking lots to set off fireworks which used to be a custom in Grass Valley. Now, Fire Marshall Wagner says that activity will result in a citation.
It’s the same for the unincorporated areas of the county. Nevada County Consolidated Fire Marshall Terry McMahan say for the first time ever there has been a meeting by all enforcement agencies in the area to prepare for fireworks patrols.
McMahan says one problem for the unincorporated areas are people who bring in illegal fireworks from out of county.

As for Nevada City, it is legal to use Safe and Sane Fireworks but McMahan says you may have to break the law to get them to the city.
The Fire Marshall’s suggest local residents go to public fireworks displays that are put on by professional companies. The Nevada County Fairgrounds and Lake Wildwood will have fireworks displays the evening of July 4th.
