Tax-aide is a free service of the IRS and AARP offering free counseling and tax preparation with 27 volunteers here in Nevada County. Area Coordinator Dave Babbit says the program is designed for low income tax payers with simple returns and they do offer e-file.
“We’re really geared toward lower income people, so it’s great for those kind of people to have a service where they don’t have to pay a fee and get their refunds or their earned income credit, child tax credits, things like that in a pretty efficient manner because it’s e-filed and often if they e-file and they have their checks deposited into their accounts, they’ll get their refund within a week to two weeks.”
Babbit says 950 tax payers used the service last year in Nevada County. To make an appointment with a counselor and have your taxes prepared for free, call 273-2273 and make an appointment.
