Fuel Thief Runs Out of Gas

A massive diesel theft was interrupted by the Grass Valley Police. Captain Rex Marks says Officers saw a truck parked at the Shell station on South Auburn Street early Sunday morning. When officer contacted 35 year old Titus Bujdei from Loomis. Officer felt the man was siphoning fuel from the station. Captain Marks says just as Officers began their investigation Bujdei fled in a U-Haul type vehicle. The chase went down Highway 49.

“The driver fled down highway 49 with Grass Valley police cars and Placer County Sheriff cars in pursuit. When the man turned onto Bell Road officers were able to stop the truck. The driver fled into a field on foot.”

The driver was taken into custody after a foot chase. Captain Marks says a Placer County Sheriff’s car was in a accident when it hit  a large quantity of diesel that spilled from the truck on the road. The Deputy was not seriously injured. Officers discovered over seven hundred and fifty gallons of diesel fuel had been stolen. Bujdei was also found to be in possession of suspected cocaine. Captain Marks says the chase was stopped on Bell road because the U-Hual ran out of gas.
