The safety of county and court employees, and the public, is compromised by a lack of security in some areas of the Nevada County Courthouse. That’s the finding of the Nevada County Grand Jury in a report that has just been released. Court Executive Officer Sean Metroka agrees that the security system could use some improvement.
But, Metroka says that comes down to money, which the county doesn’t have or is unwilling to spend.
According to the report, one fault in the system is in the Washington Street intake hallway where prisoners are transported. An old camera there had been taken out and not replaced. Metroka says the presiding judge has until August to respond to the Grand Jury’s report, and will likely outline the attempts to get the required funding to upgrade the system.
