Grass Valley resident as well as writer, producer and director, Lou Douros, has been nominated for an Emmy Award for his documentary In the Wake of Giants. The story of efforts to rescue whales snared in debris, often fishing line and nets at sea off the coast of Hawaii. Shot almost entirely on research cameras mounted on the helmets of rescuers themselves, this short documentary takes you into the boat within close range of the struggling whales. Douros says he is grateful to the Public Broadcasting system for airing his documentary last fall and for the nomination.
Douros has a son, Blaise Douros, a graduate of Nevada Union High School who worked on the score for the documentary.
Douros is currently raising funds to film the sequel to be filmed in Alaska this summer. To learn more about In the Wake of Giants or the upcoming sequel Northern Wake you can go to the web site blat snapper dot com.
