High Speed Chase in Rough and Ready Area

Residents of the Rough and Ready area were alerted last evening that a possibly armed and dangerous felon suspected of auto theft was believed to be in the area.   The incident began with a high speed chase by Nevada County deputies pursuing the suspect, Antonio Torres, 29, as he was driving a blue Honda Accord, believed to be stolen out of Grass Valley.  The chase took them to the area of Pyrite and Ponderosa in rough and Ready where Sheriff Keith Royal told us the driver left the vehicle on foot.

“Apparently this individual is known to us. He has been known to be armed in the past. He’s described as a Hispanic male, approximately 20-25 years of age. He has a black baseball cap, long sleeved black shirt and a black backpack.”

The county used the emergency notification calling system to alert residents that a search for the suspect was underway in their area.  Torres has 2 felony warrants out of the bay area.  As of this morning the sheriff’s office says Torres had not been located.  It’s unknown if he is still in the area.
