Sutter Auburn Faith Hospice and the Sacramento Hospice Consortium are offering hospice volunteer training programs for people interested in becoming hospice volunteers for hospice services. Ann Lyons, manager of the hospice program at Sutter Auburn Faith says it’s a very rewarding experience.
“So many of our volunteers feel like they’re really do meaningful work. It’s special, one on one work. They actually go into patient homes and spend time assisting the patient, assist the family. A lot of it is really companionship.”
More than 300 volunteers currently work with seven hospice programs serving the greater foothill area. Hospice volunteer training classes are being offered on Feb. 9 and Feb. 10, and Feb. 16 and Feb. 17 at Sutter Auburn Faith Hospital, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., in Conference Room A.
Volunteers take a series of classes including History and Philosophy of Hospice Care, Concepts of Death and Dying, Communications Skills, and Grief and Bereavement. Training is designed for both those wishing to become hospice volunteers and those caring for and supporting a dying family member or friend.
