HWY 49 Locksley Lane Crash

A 91 year old man from Grass Valley was killed on HWY 49 near Locksley Lane in Placer county yesterday morning. He was a passenger in a 1974 red fiat driven by 80 year old Maurean Turpen   of Grass Valley.  The couple was traveling at approximately 45 miles an hour south bound when a 2003 black Lincoln Sedan driven by 47 year old Shawn Martin of Auburn turned from the left turn lane to cross the highway into the path of the fiat. Officer Dave Montijo with the Auburn CHP describes the collision.

“When the driver of the Lincoln turned left in front of her to turn into a driveway located at 374 Grass Valley Highway. The Fiat applied the brakes, but was unable to stop before colliding into the Lincoln.”

The male passenger was pronounced deceased by paramedics at the scene. Maureen was transported to Roseville Trauma center in critical condition. The highway was reopened to traffic at 12:30 yesterday afternoon.
