Repeal of the three strikes law is opposed by the California State Sheriff. Nevada County Sheriff Keith Royal is the president of the State Sheriff Association and says the repeal of the law by Proposition 36, would put citizens in danger. Sheriff Royal says the three strikes law has put serious and violent offenders behind bars for much longer sentences.
Lowering the prison population by shortening their sentences would greatly impact the public law enforcement is sworn to serve. With the people re-offending there would be no cost savings realized by letting violent people back into the community early. Eighty percent of all people released from prison re-offend.
