Learning How to I.D. Counterfeit Money

The citizen’s Academy at the Auburn police Department is almost over. Last night we learned how to identify counterfeit bills. It was amazing how good some of the fake bills are, others were pretty bad.

Bad guys can be sophisticated. One of the problems the FBI deals with is other countries counterfeiting U.S. money. The local bad guys using copiers and printers can be caught pretty easily. The raised printing, according the the agent last night, seems to be the best way to tell. Using your finger nail along the collar of the portrait, you should feel the raised print.
