Lincoln Propane Fire Update

Residents have been allowed to return home in Lincoln where a burning tanker car loaded with propane is no longer spewing flames into the air. The plan yesterday was to “hot tap” a valve into the tanker and drain off the propane into a pond where it could be burned off, but in the process of doing that, fire officials realized there was less propane in the tanker than they had previously thought. They decided to  push foam and water into the tanker, a much safer procedure , and burn off the propane from the top spigot which is what they ended up doing. The flames subsided early this morning, indicating that most of the propane had been burned off and residents were allowed to return home around midnight last night.  The firefighters are still doing mop up operations today and trying to figure out why the propane tanker started burning  Tuesday afternoon.
