Low Jack Car Theft

A Nevada City man, a fugitive from justice, was arrested thanks to a Low Jack device. The 21 year old Nevada City man befriended an elderly couple on vacation in Reno and stole their car that was equipped with a Low Jack device. The couple reported the car stolen and the CHP could then track the vehicle thanks to the low jack device. Truckee CHP officers arrested 21 year old Bret Charles Minogue of Nevada City near Soda Springs on West Bound interstate 80 on 7 felony charges and 2 misdemeanors. Officer Tom Andrade shares how Minogue took advantage of the elderly couple.

“He was allowed to drive the car just back to the hotel for the elderly couple who requested him to. But after he dropped them off at the hotel, he acquired the keys and left with the vehicle. There was low jack in the vehicle. He started coming westbound into California. I think the was headed back to Nevada City where he was from where the low jack was activated and the hits were responded. Once we were in the car, we were able to locate it.”

Minogue was arrested without incident and booked into the Wayne brown correctional Facility on a variety of charges including vehicle theft, possession of a stolen vehicle, a felon in possession of a firearm, as well as possession and suspicion of being under the influence of drugs. Minogue was also considered a fugitive from justice with a warrant out for his arrest.
