Man Dies in Chipper Accident

Described by Nevada County Sheriff Keith Royal as a tragic accident, a unidentified man from out of the area has died, due to injuries he sustained after being pulled into a commercial wood chipper while doing work in the Cement hill road area of the county. Sheriff Royal says a 911 was taken around 8:30 this morning in the 10 thousand block of Indian Shake Road where the accident occurred.

“A brush clearing company was cutting tree limbs and brush and running it through a very large commercial sized wood chipper and apparently one of the ropes inadvertently got caught into the grinding mechanism and quickly got pulled into the chipping machine. Unfortunately as the rope proceeded into the machine, it snared an individual and caused a fatal injury to him, causing him to die immediately. Our victim is a 50 year old male, Hispanic, from out of the area.”

The victims name is being withheld pending notification of next of kin. Cal-Osha is also investigating the accident for safety practices.
