A man threatening to end his life closed Highway 20 near the fairgrounds early Saturday morning. Nevada County Sheriff Keith Royal says his crisis team responded to a man standing on the Brighton Street Over crossing, above the west bound lanes of Highway 20 threatening to jump. The Sheriff says he was very upset over the breakup of a relationship. Officers closed the west bound lanes and Brighton Street while crisis negotiators spoke with the man.
”Between the Sheriff’s office and the officers and the Grass Valley Police Department and Highway Patrol, they closed off traffic on the overcrossing and westbound traffic on Highway 20. This was several hours when this traffic was closed and then negotiators attempted to resolve this situation by talking to this individual.”
After several hours, negotiators were successful in talking the man out of jumping. The 31 year old man was taken to Sierra Nevada Hospital for treatment. The incident had the roads closed for several hours, until the situation was resolved.
