Mardi Gras Comes to Nevada City

It’s time to plan your creative entry in Nevada City’s 2012 Mardi Gras Parade, which this year will be held on President’s Day Weekend.

The Nevada City Chamber of Commerce is now accepting applications for entries in the 20th Annual Nevada City Mardi Gras Parade. The 2 p.m. Sunday parade is part of a two day Mardi Gras celebration Feb. 18-19.

Nevada City Chamber Executive Director Kathy Whittlesey says Nevada City is known for its zany and entertaining parade entries.

“We already have the Sons of Norway in. They have their Viking Boat and we have the Kare Krisis Nursery with their pirate ship and we have the Ewing Ventures in, we’ve got an old fire truck with Dan McIntyre. We’re just looking for different things.”

There are no entry fees for individuals, youth groups and local organizations. There is a $25 fee for commercial and political entries. Deadline to sign up is Feb. 1. Applications are available at the chamber office at 132 Main Street, or call 530-265-2692.
