January is National Mentoring Month and Big Brothers Big Sisters of Nevada County hopes more people will be inspired to get involved mentoring a child through their program. Steve Rosenthal who is the owner of Tess’ Kitchen Store says he decided to become a Big Brother when he saw how much fun his neighbor was having being in the program.
“I started to see, on a more personal basis, what was involved and how much it meant both to the “little” as we call him as well as how much fun my neighbor was having and thought that it would be something very fulfilling to do.”
Rosenthal got matched with his Little Brother and says over the years they have had a great relationship.
“It’s one of those things that they always say that you get more out of it yourself than you think you’re going to. I know for me, I’m just a little kid at heart and having a little brother in my life has enabled me to continue to play in life and share my experiences with somebody and it’s been very rewarding.”
There are currently 21 boys on the waiting list for a big brother in Nevada County and Men are encouraged to step up to fill the Need. There are openings for little sisters now and anyone who knows a girl ages 6 to 16 who could use a Big Sister are encouraged to contact Bib Brothers Big Sisters of Nevada County at 273-2227.
