Murder Suspect Attends Preliminary Hearing

Homicide suspect Cody Feiler was in Nevada County Superior court Thursday for a preliminary hearing before Judge R.M. Smith. Nevada county Assistant district Attorney Anna Ferguson said the judge accepted the charges against Felier brought by the D.A.s office associated with the murder of 75 year old James Turner of Alta Sierra. Feiler is accused of hitting Turner with a log which caused turner’s death February 10th of last year near the Alta Sierra Airport.

“Count one is murder, count two is assault with a deadly weapon and there are a number of enhancements which basically, just address certain specifics about how the crime was committed; i.e. with a weapon, that the victim was over 70 years of age. The final charge is a misdemeanor vandalism as a number of neighbors’ mailboxes and address markers were damaged by the defendant.”

Feiler was found initially incompetent to stand trial for the murder and was sent to Napa state hospital. He was treated and his competence was reinstated and Feiler was returned to Nevada County to face the charges. Feiler will remain at the Wayne Brown Correctional Facility and will be arraigned on March 16th at 1pm in Nevada county Superior Court.
