The smoke in the air around Nevada City today is from a controlled training fire. The owners of the property off North Bloomfield offered the home for firefighting training months ago. Battalion Chief David Ray explains the fire department had to go through many steps for the safety of the environment, the public and the firefighters. The training started late as every one’s concerns were addressed.
Chief Ray on Training late start
The training ran about an hour late and once they secured approval the teams went in.
The house was eventually a fully involved structure fire and Chief Ray explains that this is part of the training and allows them to use some of their newest tools to fight the fire.
Firefighters believe this is possibly the last house fire to be burned for training in the state of California due to environmental concerns.
