A major drainage improvement project undertaken at the Nevada County Airport last summer and fall was not able to withstand the onslaught of rain from recent storms.
Airport Manager Lee Ocker says hydro-seed had been sprayed in the drain fields but it did not have time to sprout and was washed away in the storm. The overflow of rainwater crossed Grass Valley Avenue and flooded nearby businesses . Ocker says Insurance adjusters and legal council from the County will take a tour of the damaged areas on Tuesday.
Ocker says the County and the Airport are insured if there is liability from the storm. He says no aircraft were damaged due to the recent storms but some planes were actually picked up and moved a few inches by the wind, but tie downs kept them from flipping over.
