Nevada County Building Department Extends Building Permits

The Nevada County Building Department has a procedure to remedy some flaws pointed out by a 2010 Grand Jury Report where building permits were never finished or expired. Steve Decamp Director of the Community Development Agency says five thousand permits are left in the system, resulting in the possible loss of revenue from fees.

“Building permits that don’t have a final are open to the extent that we can’t make a final determination as to whether or not all the minimum life safety standards of a building code have been met during that construction.”

Decamp says the permits can be reactivated for as little as a hundred and fifty dollars.  The Building Department will notify home owner and contractors to close the permits. Building official will also notify the person responsible for the permit that it will expire within thirty days. If the construction is not complete an extension can be given.
