Nevada County Food Bank Feeds More Families Than Ever in November

The Food Bank of Nevada County has just compiled their food give a way numbers for November. John Thompson a volunteer with the food bank says with the help of the Salvation Army and the family resource center in North San Juan they handed out 1100 turkeys, provided food for 2334 individuals and fed 796 families in November. Johnson says the numbers of needy families in our area is up month over month and year over year for the past 4 years.

“It actually builds up every year. As a matter of fact, we’ve seen a 200% increase over the last four years.”

The food bank also has emergency food distributions on Tuesdays and Thursdays where 1172 households were fed for the first 3 quarters of the year. Food for the warming center is also provided by the food bank.
