Nevada County Superintendent of Schools Response to Connecticut Shooting

At the Nevada County Superintendent of Schools Office, our thoughts are with the families, communities, and fellow educators who have been so tragically impacted by the shooting in Newtown, Connecticut.  In order to best support local students, we have provided all schools with a link to a tip sheet titled, “Talking to Children About Violence: Tips for Parents and Teachers”.

Nevada County has a long and ongoing history of collaboration with local law enforcement, fire departments and EMS to ensure a high degree of safety for local schools. In fact, NCSOS staff and local school administrators were attending a monthly meeting with law enforcement representatives from GVPD and Nevada County Sheriffs when we learned about the tragedy this morning.  Nevada County has nine elementary districts and one high school district. Each Nevada County school district has a School Safety/Emergency Plan in place. We continue to review, revise and update these plans to reflect best practices.

Safety of all students and staff is of the highest importance and we are proud of the ongoing inter-agency collaborations in support of safe schools in Nevada County.
