Nevada County Veterans Stand Down

The Nevada County all Veteran’s stand down honoring all veterans of all wars is this weekend at the Nevada County Fairgrounds. Chaplin Dennis Fruzza says veterans will need to show proof of service but if veterans do not have their discharge papers he says they should come to the fairgrounds this weekend so they can begin the process and get the veteran’s benefits owed to them.

“The process is that it’s not necessarily going to happen right away. If we can get there, I would like the process to start. But I can pretty much tell by talking to them whether they’re a veteran or not. If they really want to come to this just because they want something to eat, I’ll feed that person, that’s not a problem. I hate turning a veteran away just because over his life, he’s lost a piece of paper.”

Services include assistance with employment, medical screenings, counseling, social services, legal aid, county veterans’ services and hair cuts. Free food and clothing will also be available from 9 in the morning till 4 in the afternoon on Friday October 7th and from 9 to 1 on Saturday the 8th.
