North San Juan Domestic Dispute Leads to Weapons Arrest

A woman was able to escape after a man pointed a gun at her head and threatened to kill her. Nevada County Sheriff’s Lieutenant John Kropp says the incident started at a home on Highway 49 in North San Juan late last night (Tuesday). The Lieutenant says a verbal argument started and during the course of the verbal jabs. The male half pointed a handgun at the victims head and threatened to kill her.  The woman was able to escape from the home. When Deputies arrived 52 year old Gregory Kays said he did not have any guns. The Lieutenant says Deputies searched the home.

“We made contact with the suspect, Gregory Kays, a 52 year old male, who denied pointing a gun at his wife and allowed us to search his residence stating that he had no weapons. In the residence, we found three shot guns, two rifles, two revolvers, one matching the description given to us by the victim.”

Kays was taken into custody for suspicion of terrorist threats and domestic violence. The weapons were taken as evidence. Kays was booked at the Wayne Brown Correctional Facility.
