Nevada Union High School students are collecting canned food donations the week of November 7th through the 10th.
NU has collected canned foods in the fall for over 30 years from the student body but this year will be different. The public is invited to make donations as well with a drive through drop off. Amy Ingle, Student body president at Nevada Union explains how the drive through will work.
“Monday through Thursday from 3:00 to 5:00 up on Ridge Road near our first intersection near the school, we’re going to have kids out there with bins and they’re going to be on both sides, so it’s kind of like a drop off for your cans. So you just drive through the intersection on Ridge near the school and kids will come up to your car and collect the cans.”
Ingle explains why the committee decided to open up the drive to the community.
“Because of the economy and everything, the need for cans is becoming greater. That’s why we’re opening up to the community this year, to try to get more cans.”
Last year the student body collected 5000 cans. The donations go the Ladies Relief Society to feed the hungry in our community.
