Oakley Couple Arrested on Drug Charges on Hwy 49

Nevada County Sheriff’s Deputies observed a vehicle traveling at an unsafe speed and weaving between other vehicles on Highway 49 near McKnight Road Thursday evening around 5pm. Sheriff Keith Royal says the deputy stopped the vehicle and when they approached noticed a strong odor of marijuana. They asked to search the vehicle and in the trunk found a purse that had been reported stolen out of Oakland earlier in the month. The driver 28 year old Karla Barquero and passenger 29 year old Antonio Torres, both of Oakley,  were both taken into custody for possession of stolen property.

“We also noticed that Mr. Torres was under the influence of some type of controlled substance and when we tested him, one of the things we’ll ask them to indicate when they think 30 seconds has passed. They didn’t even get to four seconds. So he was heavily under the influence of a controlled substance.”

Both were taken into custody and booked into the Wayne Brown Correctional Facility.
