October is Fire Prevention Month

October is Fire Prevention month and to celebrate local fire stations are hosting open houses to invite the public to meet the firefighters and learn about fire prevention. This Saturday The Coyote Street station will be welcoming their neighbors to visit and Nevada County Consolidated Fire Chief Tim Fike says in addition to the a free barbecue lunch, a tour of the fire safety trailer, the public will also get to check out the specialized swift water rescue gear at the Coyote Street station.

“Fire Station 84 on Coyote Street houses all of our swift water rescue equipment; high angle rescue, rope rescue, swift water rescue is based out of Station 84 on Coyote Street and that’s typically where we have a lot of our calls is the Yuba River Canyon area.”

The open house is this coming Saturday October 15th from 10 in the morning until 4 in the afternoon at station 84 at 10135 Coyote street in Nevada City.
