Ore Cart Stolen from North Star Mine

Someone went through a lot of trouble to steal one of the antique ore carts from the North Star Mine in Grass Valley. Robert Shoemaker the director of the North Star Mine Museum says whoever stole the cart used a pry bar to break the welds that held it to a track with 6 other carts.

“It’s probably over 100 years old, it weighs probably over 300-400 pounds, and the wheels were welded down to the rail, there were a steel bar that they used to pry on the welds and broke the welds.”

Shoemaker says the theft took place in the past 7 days. If anyone knows anything about the stolen ore cart they are asked to contact the Grass Valley police department at 477-4600.
