Independence Day is less than a month away and the Greater Grass Valley Chamber of Commerce is still accepting applications to be in the 4th of July Parade.
Greater Grass Valley Chamber of Commerce Executive Director Keith Davies says hosting the Independence Day parade on odd numbered years has been a Century old tradition. Prior to that the July 4th parade was a competition between Grass Valley and Nevada City to see who could put on the biggest parade.

The 2013 parade theme is “Strike Up the Band” which connotes a lot of energy. Davies says the Grand Marshall this year is Lowell Robinson, longtime head of Robinson Enterprises and a major supporter of community events and nonprofit groups.
And after the parade festivities move to the Fairgrounds which opens at 3p.m. with two shows prior to the Fireworks at 9:30.
